Tracks of a Wandering Mind

Poetry, stories and random thoughts from a wandering mind.

Thoughts at Midnight

(Written after a very long, very bad night.)

It shouts and stifles my spirit
This silence of the night.
Ticking clock’s ceaseless march
Mocking time’s quick flight.

End of day has come so soon
How could I not have seen
That all the time that I have spent
Was for naught but could have been?

How then do I try to embrace
A gladness that’s not there
When instead I find myself
Without the will to care?

The clock winds down quickly now
And I look upon its face
To see the passage of my life
And know I’m losing my race.
